113 area people decided to sign up for the first Paulding County Hospital Fitness Center sponsored weight loss challenge. Starting in January 2012 the challenge began with $ prizes being awarded to the top three percentile winners in March. During the 2 months of the contest, the participants lost a total of 781 pounds! Ben Ricker won the challenge losing 14.1% of his total weight. Meredith Davis got second place with a 11.9% weight loss and Stacey Rue lost 11.5% of her total weight. The hospital employees had a contest of their own with the top three winners being Ben Ricker, Mary Warnimont and Kelly Combs. Congratulations to all of the “losers”.
In 1992, a program was developed by Healthways to encourage seniors to participate in physical activity. The result was a program called “SilverSneakers” and it helps older adults take greater control of their health by encouraging physical activity. Sponsored by Medicare health plans throughout the United States, one of the benefits of the program is that it pays for a fitness center membership. Paulding County Hospital recently has joined this program. A large participating insurance provider in this area is Humana. Other Medicare insurance plans may also offer this benefit. If you wish to inquire if your Medicare insurance provider provides this benefit, give them a call and see if you can take advantage of this wonderful benefit.
If you currently are a member of the “SilverSneakers” program and you have a membership card, please bring it along to the fitness center at Paulding County Hospital and you can be enrolled in our fitness center.
